We love it!

Brady Quinn was a highly touted quarterback at Notre Dame and expected by many to become a good NFL quarterback.

Since being drafted in the first round of the 2007 NFL Draft, Quinn hasn’t done much to prove his supporters right.

Quinn had a 66.8 quarterback rating in three seasons with the Browns, and hasn’t thrown a pass in the regular season since joining the Broncos in 2010.

Tim Tebow took over the starting role for Kyle Orton this past season when the Broncos got off to a 1-4 start.

After being demoted to the third-string quarterback and watching from the sidelines as Tebow led Denver to the playoffs, Quinn is breaking his silence.

In an article for “GQ,” Quinn insinuates to Michael Silver that Tebow is overrated and not as modest as some people make him out to be.

Quinn says he thought he would’ve been the first quarterback to see the field if Kyle Orton was pulled.

Like us on Facebook

“Early in the season, there was a game when Kyle got hurt and the coaches were calling for me to go in, but Kyle got up and finished the game out. So I was the second-string guy. Then, a few weeks later, they decided to put Tim in. I felt like the fans had a lot to do with that. Just ’cause they were chanting his name. There was a big calling for him. No, I didn’t have any billboards. That would have been nice.”

The quarterback went on to say that the Broncos got very lucky in 2011 and Tebow often just made one big play to help the team win.

Then, Quinn attacked the way Tebow presents himself to the media.

“If you look at it as a whole, there’s a lot of things that just don’t seem very humble to me. When I get that opportunity, I’ll continue to lead not necessarily by trying to get in front of the camera and praying but by praying with my teammates, you know?”

Why is Quinn knocking Tebow when he hasn’t been able to produce his entire NFL career?

Too many athletes these days try to place blame on others when they are not able to perform at a high level. A.J. Burnett did the same thing on Monday when he was traded from the Yankees to the Pirates.

The pitcher said he was glad to leave New York because he let too many people “tinker” with him.

“When you let that happen, you start doubting yourself sometimes. You wonder, ‘Am I doing it right? Is this how it’s supposed to feel?’ and things like that,” said Burnett. “In ’09, nobody messed with me. I was able to do what I wanted to do on the mound, whether it was turn around, close my eyes and pitch upside down. Then you have a few bad games and you start changing and listening.”

Nobody wants to hear multi-million dollar athletes blame other people for their problems, especially athletes who have never reached their full potential.

Quinn was the 22nd overall selection in the draft and has been a bust so far.

He has just 10 career touchdowns to go along with nine interceptions. His career completion percentage is 52.1.

That would have ranked 33rd among quarterbacks last season.

Burnett has been described as having some of the best stuff in baseball since he reached the big leagues. He still has yet to put it all together on a consistent basis.

The righty is just 10 games over .500 since he made his first start in 1999. Even in his first season with the Yankees, when he said nobody “messed” with him, he still had an earned run average above four.

Burnett has struggled with every team he’s been on and has no one to blame but himself.

Quinn’s assessment of Tebow’s play wasn’t completely off base.

Sure, Denver had gotten somewhat lucky. Perhaps Tebow did receive too much credit. But taking a shot at Tebow and criticizing the way he handled himself just makes Quinn look jealous of his teammate’s success.

Maybe it was a lucky season, and it’s possible that Tebow won’t be able to sustain his success for an entire career.

Either way, Quinn should keep quiet. The nation grew to love Tebow because he is humble and a winner.

Right now, Brady Quinn is neither.

AFP – Rio throbbed to sambas, pyrotechnics and dazzling parades in an ecstatic climax Tuesday to its famed Carnival celebrations.

With bursts of fireworks, high-decibel music and a kaleidoscope of colors, the city’s top 13 samba schools treated a capacity crowd of 72,500 at the newly renovated “Temple of Samba” to stunning processions of exquisitely decorated floats.

The night parades, which went on into the small hours of the morning, had it all: captivating samba beats, superb percussionists, imaginative choreography, masterful execution and the beguiling sex appeal of gorgeous samba queens wearing colorful feathers and little else.

They marked the high point of the pre-Lent festival, a holiday that provides a rare moment of national communion and over-the-top merry-making in this huge and racially diverse country of 191 million people.

The parades, a major draw for foreign tourists, cemented the Rio Carnival’s reputation as “the greatest show on earth.”

Frank White, a 60-year-old flight engineer from Eagle Heights in Australia’s Queensland, could only find one word to describe the extravaganza: “breathtaking”.

“Marvelous,” said one performer, Brazilian telenovela actor Gilberto Torres, after parading atop a silver float as a Celtic warrior.

“The costume was heavy and hot but the emotion (of being in such a show) was such that I didn’t feel anything.”

Now the hard work begins for cleaning crews who have to clear mountains of trash and for employees who have to dismantle scores of hulking allegorical floats.

Seats at the open-air Sambadrome cost between $50 and several thousand dollars, depending on whether one sits on packed benches in the open or in air-conditioned VIP boxes stocked with champagne.

Hollywood A-lister Jennifer Lopez was one of several foreign celebrities to lend their star power to the event, appearing late Sunday in skinny red jeans and a sequined top.

There had been fears that unrest in Brazil’s state police force might disrupt the festivities in Salvador, the capital of the northeast state of Bahia, and Rio, but police strikes in those cities were settled just in time.

The only notable incident was a Rio shootout between police and a drug gang early Monday that left one person dead and four wounded in a slum located two miles (3.2 km) from the Sambadrome.

As in previous years, Salvador de Bahia led the way Thursday, with hundreds of thousands of revelers pouring into the streets of Brazil’s third largest city and heart of its rich Afro-Brazilian culture to dance and celebrate.

Rio followed a day later when Milton Junior — better known as King Momo, the Rio Carnival’s chubby symbol of excess — received a giant key to the city and declared the festivities open.

Friday and Saturday, Sao Paulo, Brazil’s economic capital, staged spectacular parades at its own sambadrome, notably paying tribute to Afro-Brazilian culture and honoring popular former president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, who is recovering from cancer radiation therapy.

A key feature of the Carnival in Brazil is the numerous street parties held in cities, towns and villages, where beer consumption soars.

In Rio, more than two million revelers in outlandish costumes flooded the city center Saturday to join Cordao da Bola Preta — one of the city’s oldest and most popular street bands — in a mammoth, frenzied samba-driven bash.

On Monday night Sao Clemente, the first of six top samba schools to take center stage at the Sambadrome, drew inspiration from a selection of popular Broadway musicals such as “The Phantom of the Opera” and “Cabaret”.

The school, known for its irreverence, had a float displaying a reclining Statue of Liberty in bikini and sandals holding an ice cream.

Uniao da Ilha do Gobernador, representing Governor’s Island in northern Rio, followed with a tribute to London and Rio, which will host the next two Summer Olympics in 2012 and 2016, respectively.

Some of the loudest applause from the crowd went to performers representing Olympic athletes holding Brazilian and Uniao da Ilha do Gobernador flags and wearing uniforms with the inscription Rio 2016.

Thirteen samba schools are in contention for the title of Carnival champion, to be bestowed on Wednesday based on choreography, music, dancing and creativity.

There was a time when churches prepared for Ash Wednesday by burning the dried palms from the previous Palm Sunday. Many still do. More and more churches, however, are buying commercially produced ashes online.

But there’s a catch: Order early.

“We just had a call 10 minutes ago,” said Mark Gould, owner of Religious Supply Service in Davenport, Iowa. “We’ve had them all day long.”

Gould was speaking Tuesday, one day before the start of Lent.

A few days earlier, Religious Supply Service had posted a note on its website saying, “Sorry, sold out for the season.” That didn’t stop churches from calling the company for a last-minute shipment.

In an interview Tuesday afternoon, Gould said that his company was still trying to accommodate desperate customers. For some small churches, though, the bill would be tough to swallow. As Gould put it — $30 or $40 to overnight a $6 bag of ashes.

One ounce of commercially produced ash can grace about 250 foreheads. The ash, often produced by commercial palm growers in Texas and Florida, is sold by church supply companies nationwide. Enough ash to serve 100 people costs about $4.

As the Los Angeles Times noted in a 2007 story on the trend, churches began shifting to commercially produced ash because it’s clean (the ash usually comes in plastic pouches), safe (there’s no danger of church volunteers burning themselves) and easy (if one remembers to order early).

Also, the Catholic practice of placing ashes on the forehead at the start of the Lenten season is being increasingly adopted by some Protestant denominations. Gould said that trend helps account for the growing sale of ashes. The palm ash is a symbol of death and sorrow for sin. Lent is the period of repentance, fasting and abstinence leading up to Easter.

Church Supply Warehouse, based in Wheaton, Ill., was also fielding inquiries this week from anxious church members. The store had already sold out of 400 packets of ash and had ordered extras. “We just got some more in,” Derek Lehr, an employee with the store, said in an interview Tuesday.

Some callers asked the warehouse to overnight their purchases, Lehr said. Others, representing churches in and around Wheaton, said they would swing by the store to pick up their ashes in person.
